About the Author
I spent twenty years on the spiritual and self-development path with a persistent feeling that I was missing something. Reading helped. Enlightenment talk helped. Deep experiences helped, a little more each time. I kept going deeper, kept finding real layers, and kept feeling that the deepest layer was still somewhere below, still unnamed and unmet, still running my life in the background.
Then two things converged. I met Grof’s birth matrices, IFS, ACT and polyvagal theory — and, in the same season, I met a woman who seemed built to trigger every wound and protector I had. Everything I had read suddenly had an address. I met my exiled children. I met the deep trauma and the fears underneath the fears. And — the part I most want you to believe — I felt it through, properly, to the end, and then it healed itself slowly. Not because I fixed anything. Because the feeling, finally completed, needed no fixing — just being allowed properly and fully.
This book is the one I was looking for for two decades. One structural debt deserves public acknowledgment: the architecture of the book — crayon drawings, short chapters that each end in something to do, everything checkable on your own body now rather than believed — is borrowed with gratitude from Douglas Harding’s Head Off Stress. The rest — the maps, the pool, the war — comes from the path and the lived experience described above.
A note on sources
The book stands on the shoulders of named experts: Richard Schwartz (IFS), Stephen Porges (polyvagal theory), Stanislav Grof (birth matrices), Deb Dana, Bessel van der Kolk, Douglas Harding, Nancy Friday and others — each credited in context, with full references and an honest chapter on what the science does and does not support. Testimonies are composites or used with permission; identifying details have been changed.
