Say No Once, Small — Without the Guilt

✦ CORE PATH
Find one small request this week you’d normally accept with secret resentment — a favor, a task, an errand that isn’t yours…
Say no. Kindly, WITHOUT a novel of excuses: “I can’t take that on, sorry.” Full stop. Justifications are invitations to negotiate…
Check the spike: the People-Pleaser’s alarm fires — they’ll be angry! they’ll leave! Feel it fully; it lasts about ninety seconds (Chapter 19). Then check reality afterward: did catastrophe arrive? Almost certainly not. And notice the stranger thing: did your self-respect tick up one notch? That notch is recovery’s currency.
Conclusion: every guilt-free no teaches your system that love does not require self-erasure. One small no at a time, the Rescuer retires into a person who helps from choice.
